Caster Semenya Is A Hermaphrodite

BERLIN - AUGUST 19: Caster Semenya of South A...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

According to online reports, South African runner Caster Semenya is a hermaphrodite with both male and female organs.

As we originally thought, 18-year-old Semenya has no uterus or ovaries. Her vagina is a pouch that leads nowhere and she has internal testicles that never descended, but which continue to produce testosterone that gives her secondary male sex characteristics such as facial hair, masculine physique and a deep voice.

Last week, Semenya was given a makeover by the magazine YOU. Semenya laughed off the controversy about her gender and called the sex testing “a joke.”

But a source with the track & field world organizing body, IAAF, was today quoted as saying: “There certainly is evidence now that Semenya is a hermaphrodite. So what they do now is they do everything, and then they can say look, not only has she got this, she’s got that and the other.”

It was the IAAF that originally ordered a battery of tests to determine Semenya’s gender after the South Africans refused a request to do it.

Athletics South Africa president Leonard Chuene said his organization is ignoring the claims. “We cannot get involved in gossip of this sort,” he said in a statement. “She is at university at the moment. She must concentrate on her studies. We stand fully behind her as our athlete.”

Semenya’s uncle Lesiba Rammabi, 51, said her relatives were ‘very humiliated’ by the reports. He said: “I believe Caster is normal, inside and out. What does it matter whether she can have babies or not? Many people cannot have children, why else do parents adopt? Are those women not women also?”

Former Atlanta Falcons running back Jamal Anderson was arrested early Sunday morning after an off-duty police officer witnessed him sniffing cocaine in the men’s room of a Buckhead bar, Atlanta police said.

Anderson, 36, and Mark Daniel Hudson, 20, both of Duluth, were in the same stall inside the men’s room at Peachtree Tavern about 3 a.m., sniffing powder cocaine off the toilet tank, said police spokesman Otis Redmond.

Mark Daniel Hudson, 20, of Duluth, was arrested early Sunday for allegedly sniffing cocaine inside the Peachtree Tavern in Buckhead.

A tavern patron alerted an off-duty Atlanta police officer to possible illegal drug use inside the restroom, he said.

“The patron had heard what he thought was sniffing from inside the stall and told the off-duty officer,” Redmond said. “The officer went into the restroom, heard the same sniffing and peered over the stall door. He saw Jamal Anderson and Mark Hudson sniffing two lines of powdered cocaine off the back of the toilet.”

Police said they found a 1-inch square bag of cocaine and a marijuana cigarette inside Anderson’s pocket. The men were arrested without incident and booked into the Fulton County Jail for felony possession of cocaine. Anderson was also cited for misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

Both men will be held overnight pending a first appearance in Magistrate Court at 11 a.m. Monday, said jail spokeswoman Tracy Flanagan.

Redmond said the tavern could be investigated for allowing Hudson, who is underage, inside the bar.

Anderson was in attendance Nov. 16 when the Falcons honored the 1998 Super Bowl team at half time of the game against Denver.

During the 1998 season, Anderson rushed for a franchise-record 1,846 during to help power the Falcons to their only Super Bowl appearance. He celebrated his long runs and touchdown scores by doing the “Dirty Bird” dance that was created by teammate O.J. Santiago.

He suffered a knee injury that required surgery and only had two rushes the following season. Overall, he played eight seasons with the Falcons, from 1994 to 2001, before a second knee injury ended his career.

He worked as an NFL analyst for ESPN’s First Take this past season. George McNeilly, senior director of communications at ESPN, declined comment on Sunday, according to ESPN.com.

Staff writer D. Orlando Ledbetter contributed to this report.

Mogul Sports Fans, Keep Up With Your Teams On StatTweets.

Sports Fans, Keep Up With Your Teams On StatTweets.
by Erick Schonfeld on December 17, 2008

A big part of being a sports fan is keeping score. And now there is a great way to keep up with scores and stats for every basketball and football team in the U.S. (NBA, NFL, and college teams). It’s called StatTweets, and it just launched today. You can follow any team you like from @KnicksStats to @UNCStats, and you’ll get spreads, final points, standings, ranks, and more. Here is the full list of teams.

There are other sports-related Twitter services, such as SportsTwit, but those tend to be updates from other fans. StatTweets lets you zero in on the teams you care about.

The data for StatTweets comes from StatSheet. So when you click on StatTWeet from the Knicks, it takes you to the Knicks page on StatSheet. Both were developed by Robbie Allen ad are part of his newly announced StatSheet Network, which also includes StatFix (an embeddable stat of the day widget for any college basketball team).

Hardcore sports fans are going to want to check out StatSheet. For a one-man startup with no funding, this is really impressive. The site is all about sports stats. They are front and center in a big, readable font. You can slice and dice them anyway you want. There are stats on how each player impacts his team, and even on referees.

But my favorite part is the charts. Here’s an animated one called Rankings in Motion that shows how the college basketball standings changed over the season. Best of all, you can build your own with any of the data on the site and then embed it as a widget on your blog or fan site.
