Taste has truly left the building

Domestic Violence is NEVER okay. Never. A woman has no business hitting a man unprovoked, and a man should likewise realize his strength and always chose to leave a threatening situation. This week the blogs and the news outlets are BLAZING with the news of the latest Chris Brown/Rhianna situation. I don’t have to link it for you, you already know by now. It has sparked some interesting conversations and some that are completely ruining my hope for humanity.

A couple of things. This is completely unacceptable and tasteless. This is the first thing that is bothering me. Domestic violence is not funny. The jokes and the silly comments are too much. I can’t believe that because they are celebrities people feel like they have the right to poke fun and be rude. if it was your sister or your son and the details were not out yet, I’m sure you wouldn’t be so quick to “haha”.
Why do we feel like this is any of our business? I understand that their lives are in the public and are open to criticisms but at what point do we the people fall back? We are grown enough to know when to mind our own business. The entire blogosphere is calling for full disclosure on this situation like they have a personal stake in it. I sincerely hope that this situation isn’t what we all seem to be hearing, but to be honest, no matter what the details are it’s none of my business. If Chris Brown did everything that he is being viciously accused of, I pray that he gets help, and since he is a public figure, I hope that he goes out of his way to shine light on this issue and educate himself as well as the public on how to stop it. As for Rhianna, I pray that she too gets help and strength and protection from this horrible media shower she has found herself in. These are people’s LIVES.
Here’s the deal, domestic violence is a serious serious issue. No matter who is involved there should be fair and balanced treatment given. We have NO CLUE what happened. We can’t hang Chris Brown and we can’t turn Rhianna into a STD giving slut. I mean really people? Has evolution turned us back into cavemen? Are we unable to put ourselves in other people’s shoes? Treat others as you would have them treat you ring a bell? I guess not. This whole fiasco has shown me that people can be shallow, tacky, and outright vicious. I’ve also discovered that there are quite a few people who think there are several justifiable reasons for violence against the opposite sex, either way. That to me has been the most shocking. It’s such a shame. We have to do better. We celebrated President Obama‘s win and got on our high horses and claimed that Change was finally here. Then at the first opportunity we went back to the bottom of the barrel. Crabs. I tell you.

P.S. I don’t mean to be condescending. I will not deny the high level of interest in this story for myself even. What I can’t stand is how low we are stooping to aid in the downfall of both of these artists before we even know the whole story. Once the details are released I hope that the appropriate measures are taken LEGALLY and PERSONALLY to ensure this never happens again.
